Count backwards, he whispers.
Suddenly, everything’s a blur.
My conscience is muddled,
yet incapable of worry.
The ensuing fog is quick;
I can’t make it to one.
floating, floating, gone.

Travels

images (18)
Why Switzerland?
To hike the mighty Matterhorn,
 and sip sweet mountain wine.
To savor Swiss chocolate,
from the heavenly to sublime.
To meet a Saint Bernard;
brave dog of the “einschneien”.
To see where little “Heidi”
and her grandfather lived and pined.
To take the glacier train and cable car,
for the thrills and chills of an alpine climb.
To hear the boisterous singing and music;
alphorn, accordion and the yodeling kind…
Yes, that’s  definitely what I want to do,
when I visit Happy Switzerland next June.

 Her Majesty

Is there a flower more beautiful than the Rhododendron?
 More prolific and enduring?
More brilliant in color and hue?
I wouldn’t know.
A jewel of nature; a  dominance in my world.
 Regal to the eye,  joy to the soul,  magnificently staged–
Her Majesty the Rhododendron.
I do know.

The Cat Walk

The majestic view from my bay window reflects a kaleidoscope of  color and lush vegetation: rainbow-colored rhododendrons,  periwinkle blue and pink hydrangeas, vibrant ruby and purple azaleas and the variegated hues of the mighty evergreens.  Woodland creatures and countless birds including his majesty, the bald eagle, are daily visitors.  However, the view I treasure the most is of the breathtaking  Straits of Juan de  Fuca and its shipping lanes.

The Polar Pioneer Oil Rig and The MV Blue Marlin Submersible Transport Ship

In the early morning hours of Friday, April 17th, a gigantic structure drifted into the harbor at Port Angeles, Washington.   Outrageous ocean behemoths, the  Polar Pioneer  oil rig, nested securely atop the submersible transport ship, MV Blue Marlin , were a sight to behold.

The oil rig towers 355 feet high, is an unbelievable 400 feet long and owned by Transocean Ltd.  The transport ship is a staggering 712 ft long and 138 ft wide and is owned by Dockwise of the Netherlands. (2)

The Essence of Lavender

An odoriferous rouse
this wee purple flower.
It’s variation of use,
it’s extraordinary power.
Ice cream, lemonade, perfume, soap for hands and knee-
vinegar for cooking, relief from a sun burns tear-
medicinal aromatic oils and calming fragrant tea.
Oh, sweet lavender, I’m so glad you’re near,
along with the mountains and sea I hold dear.
