Finally, our long-awaited Tesla Model 3 has arrived. The car I had lovingly written about and hoped for in my first and updated posts (see below).
It all seems so long ago, when in 2014, John and I had traveled to Santa Monica, CA to visit our son, and were gently coerced into going to the Santa Monica Tesla store and test driving the gorgeous Model S. (Our son has a vested interest in Tesla.) The Model S earned our deepest respect, just not the $100,000 ticket price. We would have to think on it.
Then the concept of a lower cost Model 3 for $35,000 was introduced in early 2016. The car’s sleek style and unbelievable features shot us over the moon. We had to have one and now.
In late March of 2016, Tesla announced that it would be taking pre-orders for the Model 3 with just $1000 down. On April 1, we reserved our car amongst the fervor of 400,000 other reservations hunters in the aftermath of its unveiling. Our in-laws from Michigan ordered a Model 3 at the same time we did. The race had begun; who would get theirs first? We lost by two months.
In early July 2018, after 27 months of patiently waiting, our Tesla was ready for pick up in Seattle. As is turned out, the Model 3 far surpassed our wildest dreams. It is the most beautiful and thrilling car we have ever had. Just be prepared for a price tag exceeding $60,000 with all the “added features”.
John and I have since been anointed with the title “environmental heros“, for (a) throwing the dice on an electric developmental car, (b) hoping it would arrive before we died, and (c) agreeing to the final purchase price when it had skyrocketed two-fold.
Fear not, we will never look back on this gamble. It was a sure thing.
GO TESLA!
