Tesla Mania (2016)

My first published post at wannathink.com spotlighted the beautiful yet controversial all-electric Tesla automobile:

The Tenacious Tesla (2014)

In March of 2016, I purchased the Model 3 on the very day of its unveiling and am anxiously awaiting its ultimate arrival in Spring of 2018.

Even mentioning this elusive but categorically brilliant machine brings smiles on people’s faces and curiosity to the conversation:  How long do you have to wait before it arrives?  Don’t you worry about losing your money?  Won’t the car devalue or have the competition acquire the Model 3’s initial features before you even get ownership? What drove you to the insanity of purchasing something you haven’t actually seen or touched and have to wait up till three years to get?

The answer to most of these questions resides within my research of the automobile and its innovator, Elon Musk.  Brilliant in his far-reaching dedication to a greener and more sustainable world, Elon Musk’s all-electric line of vehicles and state of the art solar innovations  march to the beat of a world-wide phenomenon.

The Model 3 is a jaw-opening, gorgeous but practical electric car, priced for mass production. Its sleek lines,  spacious interior (seats up to 5 adults), 215 mile single charge distance, fast acceleration (0-60 mph under 6 seconds),  5-star safety rating and autopilot capability makes the Model 3 the ultimate dream machine. My husband and I will eventually purchase the Model S,  but are starting off with the Model 3 because of its unbelievable value.  The price tag of $35,000 was a reasonable amount to venture with; $1000 down to secure our place in Musk history.  The uncomfortable and poorly designed Prius we purchased 4 years ago cost us $34,000 and its a hybrid!

As was stated in the press, the number of people clamoring to lay claim on the Tesla 3’s pre-production model was staggering.  Over 115,000 potential owners put money down in the first 24 hours of its unveiling.

Ultimately over 400,000 buyers (4) would rally to the Model 3’s success in the ensuing months making it the single most sought after pre-production vehicle ever made.  And if all 400,000 buyers actually sign on the dotted line and drive off with their Tesla 3’s, rumor has it that oil consumption could drop by 300 barrels a day across the nation!
